Success of pilot project leads to a long-term program Abbotsford School District has officially launched its Alternative Suspension Site. YMCA has been operating the site as a pilot project for past last year. Grade 9 students Keith and Justin got suspended from school last week, and it may just be the best thing that’s ever happened to them. Abbotsford School District | Alternative Suspension Program Launched
The Abbotsford School District, City of Abbotsford and YMCA of Greater Vancouver officially launched the Alternative Suspension Service site at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre today. The Alternative Suspension (‘AS’) program allows temporarily suspended secondary school students—or those on the verge of being suspended—with the opportunity to transform their time away from the classroom into a positive experience. It could be the hot chocolate, the granola bars or the casual atmosphere, but Holly LaPointe says there’s something about the Alternative Suspension program that sets teenagers on the right path.
